Desktop YouTube Downloader and Converter is unique in sense that it does not integrate itself into internet explorer as an add-on. It is installed as stand alone application. You can either paste the page url into the software or click Get Link from IE to automatically get the download link from the selected internet explorer window / tab [Fig 1].
You are given the option to download the video in standard quality or HD quality. Once the video is downloaded you can play it into in-built FLV player. In trial version this functionality is disabled [Fig 2].
You can also convert the FLV (Flash Video) files to other audio (wav, mp3) and video (mpeg, wmv, ipod video, cell phone 3gp) formats [Fig 3]. I tried two videos but the conversion did not work. It said the conversion was successful but the converted files were of zero size.
There is an option to make the software default player for flv files.
Conclusion: Non working of converter was a dampener for me, otherwise this software is good. I liked that it does not integrate with my browser; still it takes just a click to download the video.
